Product description

Sprenger Snaffle Bit, double jointed stainless steel 16mm

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the horse's commissures. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.

Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Sprenger bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Snaffle Bit, double jointed stainless steel 16mm from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Snaffle Bit, double jointed stainless steel 16mm is made of stainless steel and equipped with loose ring cheeks, i.e. rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Loose Ring Snaffle

A loose ring characterizes a loose ring snaffle. A movable ring means greater mobility of the bit in the mouth. The Sprenger Snaffle Bit, double jointed stainless steel 16mm is therefore ideal for beginners and horses that are somewhat inactive in the mouth.

Mouthpiece

Double Jointed

The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.

Bit Material

Stainless Steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium and nickel.
