Product description

Sprenger Pelham Stainless Steel Fixed Bar 12mm

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Sprenger bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. We would like to introduce the Sprenger Pelham Stainless Steel Fixed Bar 12mm bit from the Sprenger range to you in more detail today:

The Sprenger Pelham Stainless Steel Fixed Bar 12mm bit is made of stainless steel and equipped with Pelham cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a fixed bar.

Bit Thickness

Cheek Piece

Pelham

The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When taking up the reins, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that need clear action in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.

Mouthpiece

Fixed Bar Bits

A fixed bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A fixed bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.

Bit Material

Stainless Steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.
