The bit Sprenger MAX-Control Pony Bit with Bar Action 12 mm - Stainless Steel, 125 mm Width is made of stainless steel and equipped with loose ring snaffle side pieces, i.e. rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 11.5 centimeters. A mouthpiece size of 11.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12mm at its widest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Stainless steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it be boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and boating industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples of this are the development of the Aurigan and Sensogan metal alloys, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double jointed

Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Side piece

Loose ring snaffle

The loose ring snaffle has two freely moving rings at each end. A movable ring means greater mobility of the bit in the mouth. The Sprenger MAX-Control Pony Bit with Bar Action 12 mm - Stainless Steel, 125 mm Width is therefore a bit for horses that prefer a more "mobile" bit in the mouth.
