Sprenger bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today, we would like to present the Sprenger Max Control 3-Type Bridoon Stainless Steel Rust-Free Double Jointed 16mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Max Control 3-Type Bridoon Stainless Steel Rust-Free Double Jointed 16mm bit is made of stainless steel and equipped with so-called Universal rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.

Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.

When choosing bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Stainless Steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.

Manufacturer Information

Sprenger

This family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether for boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and marine sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double Jointed

A double-jointed mouthpiece is a very common type of mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheek Piece

Universal/Swivel

The universal bit, also called Beval or Swivel, usually has rings as cheek pieces with internal loops at the top and bottom. These allow for additional fastening of cheek pieces and reins, making the bit very flexible. With the Beval, the mouthpiece is attached to a central axis of the ring.
