  • Shank: Driving curb
  • Mouthpiece: Ported mouth
  • Hardness:
  • Bit thickness: 16mm
  • Size: cm

Sprenger bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Liverpool Curb Bit Stainless Steel Ported Mouthpiece 16mm from the Sprenger range:

The Sprenger Liverpool Curb Bit Stainless Steel Ported Mouthpiece 16mm is made of stainless steel and equipped with driving curb shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported mouth.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit material

Stainless steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether for boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and boating industries. The company stands for high-quality standards and innovation. Examples of this are the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Ported mouth

The ported mouth provides space for the tongue, thereby reducing pressure on the middle of the horse's tongue. More tongue relief is ideal for horses with sensitive tongues or horses that stick out their tongues. This bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.

Shank

Driving curbs

Driving curbs such as the Sprenger Liverpool Curb Bit Stainless Steel Ported Mouthpiece 16mm are specially designed for the needs of carriage horses. There are several types of driving curbs.

Liverpool Curb The Liverpool curb is a classic driving bit and offers several options for rein attachment. The Liverpool curb is usually available with short or long shanks. It is also possible to tilt the angle of the port forward. This forward tilt relieves pressure on the bars and acts more on the tongue.

Post Curb The post curb is also a classic driving curb and commonly used for agricultural harnessing. It offers two options for rein attachment. Attachment in the lower ring creates a leverage effect. When attached in the upper ring, this leverage effect is absent, and the bit becomes a snaffle bit.
