The Sprenger team is continuously working on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger KK Ultra Weymouth Bradoon, Double Jointed, Sensogan/Stainless Steel Rings 12mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger KK Ultra Weymouth Bradoon, Double Jointed, Sensogan/Stainless Steel Rings 12mm bit is made of Sensogan and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit material

Sensogan

The Sensogan material mix consists of copper, manganese and zinc. The trace element manganese has a positive effect on the horse's metabolism and stress reduction. The combination of copper and manganese results in a dosed oxidation process that promotes chewing activity. Sprenger's Sensogan bits are characterized by high compatibility.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether for boat fittings, stirrups or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most famous manufacturers in the equestrian, dog and boating industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double jointed

The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single-jointed bits.

Cheekpiece

Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available with single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
