Product description

Sprenger KK Ultra Fillis Snaffle Aurigan double jointed 16mm

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Sprenger bits are carefully selected and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger KK Ultra Fillis Snaffle Aurigan double jointed 16mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger KK Ultra Fillis Snaffle Aurigan double jointed 16mm bit is made of Aurigan and equipped with so-called Baucher or Fillis cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit Thickness

Cheek piece

Baucher/Fillis

The Sprenger KK Ultra Fillis Snaffle Aurigan double jointed 16mm is a Baucher bit, also called B-snaffle, Fillis or Fillet bit. This bit is suitable for horses that react sensitively to poll pressure. It lies very quietly in the mouth and encourages horses that carry their heads very high to lower them and become lighter in the poll. The B-snaffle is very similar to a Pelham in the upper part of the bit, because as with the Pelham, the cheekpiece is buckled in the upper, small ring. However, the rein does not act on the bit via a lever, thus exerting hardly any pressure on the poll.

Mouthpiece

double jointed

A double jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Bit Material

Aurigan

Aurigan consists of 85% copper, silicon and zinc. To keep copper nickel-free, more elaborate work steps are necessary, which make the material more expensive, which is why Sprenger's Aurigan bits are more expensive than bits made of stainless steel or Argentan.
