The Sprenger team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Sensogan Double Jointed 14mm from the Sprenger range:

The Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Sensogan Double Jointed 14mm bit is made of Sensogan and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a Weymouth snaffle for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit Thickness

The bit is 14mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Weymouth snaffles for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sensogan Copper, manganese, and zinc are the components of Sprenger's Sensogan alloy. The trace element manganese has a positive effect on the horse's metabolism and stress reduction. The combination of copper and manganese results in a controlled oxidation process that promotes chewing activity. Sprenger's Sensogan bits are characterized by high compatibility.

Manufacturer Information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and boating industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double Jointed

The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheekpiece

Weymouth Snaffle

The Weymouth snaffle is used in combination with a curb bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth snaffle is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the curb bit, as the curb is a straight bar and the Weymouth snaffle is jointed.
