  • Sidepiece: Weymouth Snaffle Bit
  • Mouthpiece: double jointed
  • Hardness:
  • Bit thickness: 14mm
  • Size: cm

The Sprenger development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. We would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Bit Double Jointed Aurigan 14mm from the Sprenger range today:

The Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Bit Double Jointed Aurigan 14mm is made of Aurigan and equipped with smaller sidepieces as a weymouth snaffle bit for curb bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit Thickness

The bit is 14mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.

Weymouth snaffle bits for curb bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Aurigan

Aurigan consists of 85% copper, silicon and zinc. In order to keep copper nickel-free, more complex work steps are necessary, which make the material more expensive, which is why Sprenger's Aurigan bits are higher priced than bits made of stainless steel or Argentan.

Manufacturer Information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether boat fittings, stirrups or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most famous manufacturers in the equestrian, dog and boating sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

double jointed

The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used for narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit applies more pressure to the tongue.

Sidepiece

Weymouth Snaffle Bit

The weymouth snaffle bit is used in combination with a curb bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The weymouth snaffle bit is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the curb bit, as the curb bit is a solid bar and the weymouth snaffle bit is jointed.
