The bit range from Sprenger provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Aurigan Single Jointed 14mm bit from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger Dynamic RS Weymouth Snaffle Aurigan Single Jointed 14mm bit is made of Aurigan and features smaller cheekpieces as a Weymouth snaffle for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 14mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-strong mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Weymouth snaffles for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Aurigan

Aurigan consists of 85% copper, silicon, and zinc. To keep copper nickel-free, more complex work steps are necessary, which make the material more expensive, which is why Sprenger's Aurigan bits are higher priced than bits made of stainless steel or Argentan.

Manufacturer Information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most well-known manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and marine sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Single Jointed

The single jointed mouthpiece has a hinge in the middle, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double jointed mouthpiece. A single jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.

Cheekpiece

Weymouth Snaffle

The Weymouth snaffle is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference from other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth snaffle is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the snaffle is jointed.
