The Sprenger bit series provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger D-Ring Snaffle Bit, double jointed, stainless steel, 16mm from the Sprenger range:

The Sprenger D-Ring Snaffle Bit, double jointed, stainless steel, 16mm is made of stainless steel and equipped with D-shaped rings as cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its widest point. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Stainless steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel comes in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium, and nickel.

About the manufacturer

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups, or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most renowned manufacturers in the equestrian, canine, and marine sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples include the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double jointed

The double jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped to the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.

Cheek piece

D-Ring

Due to the characteristics of this bit, it is wonderfully suitable for young horses that are still somewhat inexperienced. The shape and weight of the cheek pieces ensure a quiet and comfortable position in the mouth. Due to the shape of the D-shaped rings, optimal lateral stability is provided. Good and quiet rein guidance is facilitated by the large ring. The larger rings provide a little more leverage on the poll.
