The Sprenger range of bits provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Sprenger 3-Ring Bit 16 mm Double Jointed Stainless Steel from the Sprenger range in more detail:

The Sprenger 3-Ring Bit 16 mm Double Jointed Stainless Steel is made of stainless steel and features 3-ring cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit material

Stainless steel

The most common material for bits is stainless steel. Stainless steel is available in different compositions and consists of steel and various metals. Steel, in turn, is iron that has been alloyed with carbon.

To obtain stainless steel, the steel is mixed with various metals to form different alloys. The most commonly used alloy for stainless steel bits consists of steel, chromium and nickel.

Manufacturer information

Sprenger

The family-run business has existed since 1872 and specializes in metal processing, whether it's boat fittings, stirrups or bridles. H.S. Sprenger is one of the most well-known manufacturers in the equestrian, dog and boating sports industries. The company stands for high quality standards and innovation. Examples of this are the development of the metal alloys Aurigan and Sensogan, which are used for their bits.

Mouthpiece

Double jointed

A double jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is shaped more towards the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.

Cheekpiece

3-Ring

The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage and poll pressure in one bit. The degree of influence is chosen by the different rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the rein exerts the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to a leverage action.
